Our client, one of London’s most influential business membership organisations, is looking for a Media & Communications Manager to join its Policy and Public Affairs team. Representing a business network of nearly 12,000, the organisation champions London businesses and works to influence policymakers at every level, ensuring the capital remains a global hub for commerce and innovation.

About the Policy and Public Affairs Team

The Policy and Public Affairs team is focused on representing member interests, influencing national and London policy, delivering high-quality research and insight, and supporting senior leadership relationships with policymakers and influencers locally, nationally and internationally.

The Media & Communications Manager Role

As Media & Communications Manager, you’ll be the organisation’s primary point of contact for media enquiries — securing positive coverage of its policy positions and campaigns, and proactively spotting opportunities to raise its profile. You’ll report to the Head of Policy and Public Affairs and work closely with senior leadership, including the CEO, on some of the organisation’s most high-profile external communications.

Key Responsibilities of the Media & Communications Manager

  • Act as the primary point of contact for media enquiries, building and maintaining strong relationships with journalists across national, London and trade press
  • Draft and distribute press releases, statements and reactive lines with accuracy and speed
  • Produce responses and briefings, including quotes for the CEO, accurately reflecting the organisation’s policy positions
  • Monitor coverage and proactively identify opportunities to raise the organisation’s profile
  • Horizon scan across Westminster, City Hall and the wider media environment
  • Draft speeches, briefings, op-eds and talking points for the CEO and Head of Policy and Public Affairs
  • Prepare senior figures for media appearances and public engagements
  • Take ownership of internal and external communications, including communication with Patrons and the wider membership
  • Support the Policy and Public Affairs team on campaign communications, translating policy work into compelling narratives for media, political stakeholders, members and the wider public
  • Ensure drafted content is sent for approval in good time, with all enquiries responded to promptly
  • Support the production of digital content
  • Produce monthly media reports for senior leadership
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of the organisation’s communications strategy
  • Support Policy and Public Affairs team events where required

What We’re Looking For in this Media & Communications Manager

  • Demonstrable senior experience in a communications, PR or media relations role, ideally within a business, policy or political environment
  • Excellent written skills across a range of formats and audiences, including executive-level content such as speeches and briefings
  • A dynamic, idea-driven approach — able to identify and create opportunities based on evolving news cycles and political agendas
  • An existing network of media contacts
  • Strong understanding of Westminster, City Hall and the wider policy/political landscape
  • Ability to work at pace, manage competing priorities and exercise sound editorial judgement to tight deadlines
  • Confidence briefing and engaging with journalists
  • Genuine enthusiasm for policy issues affecting London businesses and the capital’s economy
  • Strong track record securing media coverage and managing press relationships
  • Experience preparing briefings, speeches and lines to take for senior figures
  • Experience supporting the production of digital content
