Senior Director of Communications Role

We are looking for a Senior Director of Communications to lead and shape the global communications strategy for Together for Girls – a global leader in the fight to end violence against children and adolescents, with a powerful focus on sexual violence

Reporting directly to the CEO, you will play a central role in increasing the visibility of Togther for Girls’ work across a variety of platforms and global audiences. This includes driving strategic communications for program work, advocacy, fundraising and the Together for Girls brand.

You will oversee key communications functions, ensuring all messaging aligns with Together for Girls’ mission and values and ensure the organisation’s voice is unified, influential and survivor centred.

Key Responsibilities for the Senior Director of Communications:

  • Leadership & Strategy: Develop and lead Together for Girls’ cross-channel global communications strategy, ensuring alignment with the organisation’s strategic objectives and global priorities.
  • Trauma-Informed Communications: Lead communications that amplify survivor voices and ensure trauma-informed, empathetic storytelling.
  • Brand & Advocacy: Oversee Together for Girls’ brand positioning and public-facing program, advocating for policy change and driving the Brave Movement to engage survivors and allies.
  • Media Relations & Crisis Communications: Manage media outreach, crisis communications and ensure Together for Girls visibility in global outlets.
  • Fundraising Support: Partner with the Development team to create compelling communications that drive philanthropic growth and engagement.
  • Team Leadership: Manage and mentor a team of communications professionals, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability and operational excellence.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Serve as a member of the Management Team, contributing to broader organisational strategy and priorities.

Who We’re Looking For

  • Experience: Senior communications roles, preferably in advocacy, public policy, gender equality, or international development.
  • Global Leadership: Proven success in leading cross-channel communications strategies and influencing global narrative environments.
  • Media & Crisis Management: Experience in media relations, spokesperson roles and crisis communications.
  • Fundraising Communications: Knowledge of donor communications and how to drive engagement and funding through compelling messaging.
  • Leadership & Mentorship: Strong team management experience, with the ability to mentor and guide a diverse communications team.
  • Trauma-Informed: High emotional intelligence with a deep understanding of trauma-informed approaches in communications.
  • Exceptional Writing & Storytelling: Excellent writing skills, including distilling complex messages and framing powerful stories.
  • Cross-Cultural Competency: Ability to operate globally and navigate different cultural contexts.
  • Language: Fluency in English; additional languages (Spanish, French, Swahili) are highly desirable but not required.
