Hanson Search is partnering with an ambitious, investor-backed business to appoint a Group Bids and Tenders Manager in Essex. You will lead the bid function and turn its best opportunities into long-term contracts. This is a chance to build something new and make a visible difference to how the business wins work.

About the Bids and Tenders Manager Role

This is a newly created position, which means you will shape it from day one. As Bids and Tenders Manager, you will own the bid process from the first decision to pursue an opportunity through to submission and review. Along the way, you will set the standards that every tender follows.

Your work will have a direct effect on growth, because every strong submission you produce helps the business win contracts it can deliver profitably. You will sit at the centre of tender activity, bringing together colleagues from sales, operations, finance and technical teams.

Designing the strategy and framework is down to you, with the authority to challenge any solution carrying too much commercial or delivery risk. For someone who enjoys bringing structure and influencing senior people, it is a rare chance to build a function from the ground up.

Bids and Tenders Manager Responsibilities

  • Define and continuously improve the bid and tender strategy.
  • Lead bids, tenders, framework applications and renewals from start to finish.
  • Establish governance for every submission, with clear approval stages and quality standards.
  • Coordinate cross-functional teams to deliver on time and to a high standard.
  • Review tender documents to identify risk and obligations, flagging commercial opportunities along the way.
  • Track win rates and quality scores to drive better results.

Bid Management Experience and Skills

  • Hold significant experience leading complex bid and tender work in a service-led or infrastructure-based organisation.
  • Demonstrate a strong record of winning public and private sector tenders and frameworks.
  • Write submissions that are accurate and persuasive.
  • Apply sound commercial judgement when weighing competitive pricing against delivery risk.
  • Lead and influence teams without direct authority.
  • Hold a full UK driving licence, with APMP, PRINCE2, APM, CIPS, ILM or CMI qualifications seen as an advantage.

What’s on Offer in Essex

The business has recently moved to a joined-up group operating model following private equity investment, and it has a clear plan for continued growth. That ambition depends on submissions that are commercially sound and realistic to deliver. Your role will therefore be valued and visible at the top of the organisation.

The culture is built on pride, integrity, innovation and growth, and people are trusted to build credibility through expertise and consistent delivery. You will work alongside directors and senior leaders who want to hear your view and act on it. Over time, you will see the results of your decisions across several businesses.

This is a great opportunity to join a business with real momentum and to build a function that will shape its future. If you are ready to take ownership of bids at this level, we would love to hear from you, so apply today.
