A Newly Created Strategic Government Affairs Role In the Energy Sector

As policy and regulatory activity across the energy and renewable space intensifies, driven by the energy transition, the organisation has created a new Government Affairs Lead position to ensure it remains informed, well-positioned and effectively engaged across the policy environment.

Government Affairs Lead: Role Overview

As Government Affairs Lead, you will:

Develop and lead a strategic policy and regulatory engagement programme aligned with the organisation’s business objectives, growth strategy and sustainability commitments.
Monitor, analyse and communicate emerging policy, legislative and regulatory developments at international, regional, national and industry levels affecting the energy sector.
Provide expert advice to senior leadership and business functions on regulatory risks, opportunities and market developments related to energy transition, climate policy, energy security, infrastructure and sustainability.
Coordinate internal policy positions and engagement activities to ensure consistent and effective representation with policymakers, regulators, industry associations and other external stakeholders.
Represent the organisation in consultations, industry forums, conferences, working groups and multi-stakeholder initiatives focused on energy, climate, sustainability and regulatory affairs.
Support corporate affairs, communications and business teams in developing policy-focused messaging and stakeholder engagement strategies.

Government Affairs Experience Required

To be considered for this role, you will have:

  • Extensive professional experience in public policy, regulatory affairs, government relations or external affairs within the energy sector, utilities, renewable energy, infrastructure, consultancy, industry associations, international organisations or public institutions.
  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Public Policy, International Relations, Law, Economics, Political Science, Energy Policy or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience monitoring, analysing and influencing policy and regulatory developments affecting energy markets, decarbonisation, climate policy, infrastructure investment, sustainability or the broader energy transition.
  • Proven experience engaging with policymakers, regulators, government departments, industry bodies and international institutions on energy-related policy issues.
  • Strong understanding of European and international energy policy frameworks, including direct experience engaging with EU regulatory processes, consultations, stakeholder platforms, expert groups, European Commission services, regulatory agencies and Member State authorities.
  • Experience representing organisations in regulatory consultations, policy discussions, workshops, industry forums and multi-stakeholder initiatives.
  • Excellent stakeholder management, communication and influencing skills, with the ability to translate complex policy developments into clear business implications and strategic recommendations.
