Hanson Search is recruiting a Public Affairs Manager for a leading business membership organisation in London. The client represents a network of nearly 12,000 businesses across the capital. This is a six-month fixed term contract paying £45,000 to £50,000 per annum pro rata, depending on experience.

The role is hybrid, with three days in the London office and two from home. Some evening and weekend event attendance is expected.

About the Public Affairs Manager role

You will join the Policy and Public Affairs team at a pivotal moment. The immediate priority is designing and delivering a high-profile Autumn engagement campaign. You will also build political and stakeholder relationships, then represent the organisation’s positions to external audiences.

Public Affairs Manager responsibilities

  • Horizon scanning across Westminster and City Hall
  • Building and maintaining relationships with political contacts and key stakeholders
  • Leading the Affiliate Chambers programme
  • Delivering public affairs events including cross-party panels and conference sessions
  • Supporting committee delivery
  • Contributing to media engagement across press and digital materials
  • Preparing briefings for senior figures ahead of external engagements

Skills and experience required

  • A strong public affairs, campaigning or political background.
  • A demonstrable record of influencing policymakers across Westminster, City Hall or wider political circles
  • One to two years in a public affairs agency or consultancy, government relations, or a political office
  • Experience turning stakeholder input and case studies into compelling advocacy
  • Excellent interpersonal and public speaking skills
  • Confidence representing an organisation at external events and with members
  • Fluent written and spoken English
  • Genuine enthusiasm for London business and policy
  • A record of organising public affairs events and managing several stakeholder relationships at once

Desirable experience for this Public Affairs Manager Role

  • Media or digital experience, with a record of securing positive coverage or delivering digital campaigns
  • An existing network of contacts across Westminster, City Hall or wider political circles
