Hanson Search is partnering with a leading independent consultancy in public affairs and strategic advisory to appoint an EU Tech Public Affairs Director in Brussels. This senior, hybrid role combines high-level client advisory with a seat on the Brussels leadership team.

About Our Client, a Brussels Public Affairs and Strategic Advisory Consultancy

Our client is a leading public affairs and strategic advisory consultancy, counselling major global organisations from a strong base in Brussels. Whether a client faces a communications challenge or has a policy goal, its team draws on an understanding of politics, public opinion and the press to create campaigns that work.

The EU Public Affairs Director Role

The firm continues to focus on client excellence and business growth. It now seeks a driven EU Tech Public Affairs Director to grow its expanding Brussels client roster and service existing public affairs accounts. This is a dual role, so you will provide high-level strategic advice to clients while also playing an active part in managing the firm.

You will bring a strong network within the Brussels institutions, giving clients sound engagement advice and counsel on the latest developments. Knowledge of digital and technology policy is an advantage, although you will be expected to grow into new focus areas as the political agenda evolves. As a member of the Brussels leadership team, you will also make decisions on the day-to-day running of the business.

Key Responsibilities in Brussels

  • Providing strategic advice to clients to progress their regulatory and policy agendas in Brussels.
  • Pursuing new business opportunities, including drafting proposals and pitches.
  • Building and maintaining a strong network across the European Commission, Parliament and Council.
  • Engaging with current and prospective clients while raising the firm’s profile in Brussels and beyond.
  • Leading the team, including coaching junior colleagues, reviewing work, delegating effectively and supporting personal development.
  • Championing excellence and leading by example within your team and across the firm.
  • Investing in the firm’s culture and celebrating team successes.

Skills and Experience for This Public Affairs Director Role

You will be comfortable and experienced in the Brussels political environment. Experience in digital and technology regulation is an advantage, although you will also have the opportunity to grow into new focus areas as the political agenda evolves. As an excellent communicator, you will have strong drafting skills in English and one other European language.

You will also bring an entrepreneurial mindset, with a genuine interest in leading business development and helping to shape and grow the Brussels offer. In addition, you will have demonstrable experience of leading teams. Flexible and collaborative in your approach, you are dedicated to producing high-quality work and going the extra mile for colleagues and clients.

Equally, you will be personable, respectful and a team player who works well with people from a diverse range of backgrounds and opinions. You will be excited to join a dynamic, driven team advising clients from a range of industries. Finally, you will be willing to travel occasionally to the UK and other European capitals.

Salary and Benefits

The role offers a competitive package dependent on experience, including:

  • An annual bonus scheme.
  • Generous annual leave plus bank holidays and time off over Christmas.
  • Employer pension contribution and private health insurance.
  • Meal and eco vouchers plus monthly travel and representation allowances.
  • Hybrid working and the option to work from abroad for up to four weeks a year.
