A Government Affairs Opportunity to Influence Healthcare Policy

Our client is a leading global pharmaceutical company dedicated to advancing innovative medicines and improving outcomes for patients worldwide. As healthcare systems face increasing pressures around access, affordability and innovation, the organisation is seeking a Director, Government Affairs to help shape its engagement with policymakers, healthcare stakeholders and industry partners.

This is a strategically important government affairs role that will lead the development and execution of government affairs activities across key markets, ensuring the company remains well-positioned in a rapidly evolving policy and regulatory environment.

The Role: Director, Government Affairs

As Director, Government Affairs, you will play a central role in supporting the organisation’s external policy agenda and stakeholder engagement activities.

Key Government Affairs Responsibilities

Developing and implementing government affairs strategies aligned with business priorities and therapeutic area objectives.
Monitoring and analysing political, legislative and healthcare policy developments that may impact the pharmaceutical industry and the company’s operations.
Providing strategic advice to senior leaders on healthcare policy trends, government initiatives and stakeholder developments.
Building and maintaining effective relationships with government officials, policymakers, health authorities, industry associations and patient advocacy organisations.
Supporting the company’s engagement in consultations, policy discussions, industry forums and stakeholder working groups.
Identifying opportunities to influence policy outcomes that support patient access, healthcare innovation and sustainable healthcare systems.
Coordinating cross-functional input into policy positions, consultation responses and advocacy initiatives.
Partnering with market access, medical affairs, regulatory affairs, legal and communications teams to ensure alignment of external engagement activities.
Representing the organisation at conferences, policy events, parliamentary meetings and industry roundtables.
Supporting the development of strategic partnerships and coalitions across the healthcare and life sciences ecosystem.

Government Affairs Experience Required

To be considered for this role, you will have:

Extensive experience in government affairs, public affairs, healthcare policy, market access or external affairs within the pharmaceutical, biotechnology or life sciences sector.
A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Public Policy, Political Science, International Relations, Public Health, Law, Economics or a related field.
Strong understanding of healthcare systems, pharmaceutical policy, market access and reimbursement environments.
Experience engaging with government departments, healthcare authorities, regulators and industry stakeholders on healthcare policy matters.
Knowledge of UK and European healthcare policy frameworks and decision-making processes.
Experience contributing to policy advocacy initiatives, consultation responses and stakeholder engagement programmes.
Excellent communication, relationship-building and influencing skills.
The ability to interpret complex policy developments and translate them into practical business insights and recommendations.
