The Brief

A client engaged us on a retained basis to appoint a Senior PR & Content Manager to strengthen its growing communications function. Working closely with the Head of Communications, the role was positioned as a critical executional hire, supporting the development and delivery of the company’s external profile as well as its portfolio companies.

The client required a confident, hands-on communications professional who could take ownership of day-to-day PR and content delivery, while also contributing strategically to campaign planning and narrative development. This included managing media engagement, shaping compelling content, and ensuring consistency across channels during key business moments such as funding announcements and portfolio developments. The brief emphasised pace, judgement, and adaptability, with a clear need for someone comfortable working autonomously, managing multiple priorities, and translating complex activity into clear, engaging communications.

The Process

We delivered the assignment via a retained search model, enabling a thorough and targeted approach. The process began with a detailed market mapping exercise across PR agencies, in-house communications teams, private capital firms, and adjacent sectors.

A curated longlist was presented, followed by structured, competency-based interviews assessing media relations expertise, content capability, pace, and stakeholder management. From this, we delivered a focused shortlist aligned to both technical requirements and cultural fit.

The Outcome

We managed interview scheduling, preparation, and feedback loops throughout the process, advising closely on candidate strengths and potential risks. Final-stage negotiations were led by us, resulting in the successful placement of a Senior PR & Content Manager within the salary budget.

The appointed candidate now plays a key role in delivering the company’s external communications activity, providing immediate impact across media engagement, content delivery, and key business milestones.
