The role of Public Affairs Director at a renowned international strategic communications consultancy (part of a prestigious global communications group) offers a significant leadership opportunity within the Energy & Sustainability team in Brussels. This position is centred on providing high-level expertise and guidance in energy, sustainability, and environmental policy, particularly in navigating the complexities of EU advocacy and regulatory landscapes.

The Public Affairs Director will lead the team responsible for advising clients on strategic communications and public affairs. This includes developing integrated advocacy campaigns, analysing and interpreting economic, regulatory and legislative developments, and offering expert counsel to clients. The role combines leadership, and client management responsibilities in a dynamic and collaborative setting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Client Leadership & Strategic Counsel:
    • Provide senior-level counsel to clients on matters related to EU public affairs, focusing on energy, sustainability, and environmental policy.
    • Lead the development of communications strategies tailored to client needs, with a strong understanding of EU policymaking and its implications.
    • Advise on regulatory and legislative developments that impact clients’ business operations, helping them adapt and respond effectively.
  • Business Development & Client Growth:
    • Lead business development efforts, identifying new opportunities through networking and within existing accounts.
    • Challenge clients to review and enhance their EU advocacy strategies, ensuring that their media relations, content creation, and messaging meet stakeholder expectations.
    • Expand the consultancy’s client base in the energy and sustainability sectors, leveraging deep knowledge of the EU legislative environment.
  • Team Leadership & Development:
    • Manage and mentor teams, providing guidance to junior members and ensuring project delivery within set timelines and budgets.
    • Foster a collaborative and knowledge-sharing environment, encouraging thought leadership within the team.
    • Contribute to the strategic direction of the Brussels office, working closely with the local market management team.
  • Expertise in Energy, Sustainability, and Environmental Policy:
    • Extensive experience in public affairs, EU advocacy, or strategic communications, ideally with a focus on energy and sustainability policies, preferably with previous experience in a consultancy.
    • Demonstrated experience advising corporates on EU regulatory frameworks, particularly in relation to energy transition and environmental policies.
  • Client Relationship & Business Acumen:
    • Strong track record of managing senior-level client relationships and delivering strategic advice with confidence.
    • Proven ability to drive business growth by expanding client portfolios and identifying new market opportunities.
  • Leadership & Communication Skills:
    • Proven ability to lead project teams, manage resources, and deliver results within defined timeframes.
