An international critical issues firm advising the world’s leading companies is looking for an experienced communications Associate to join their team in Madrid.
With 27 offices in 18 countries, our client is an international critical issues firm, advising the world’s leading companies on how to navigate critical issues and engage with critical stakeholders. They are looking for an Associate based in Madrid, Spain. In this role, you will play a pivotal role in advising clients and leading execution on accounts. Your focus will be on delivering workstreams and proactively developing innovative ideas. Additionally, you will cultivate a wide internal network across offices and specialisms to share, develop, and deliver exemplary work both internally and externally, while also broadening your external network.
The agency helps the leaders of the world’s great value-creating organizations operate successfully across the increasingly complex and fast-changing arenas of finance, politics, and society at large.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead execution on client accounts, managing workflow and key elements such as client calls and first drafts of documents.
- Provide strategic advice to clients across a range of issues and communications disciplines, with the support of Partners and drawing on independent experience and insights.
- Understand complex sector issues and the attitude of media, politicians/regulators, NGOs, and other stakeholder groups.
- Manage complex media and policy-related interactions, utilizing advanced knowledge of media and other stakeholder landscapes.
- Play a key role in team management and dynamics, including supporting smooth team transitions and mentoring junior team members.
- Actively participate in drafting new business proposals and letters of engagement, including involvement in pitch meetings.
- Foster a network of journalist and stakeholder contacts and relationships, proactively building a network to identify new business prospects and media contacts.
- Collaborate with Partners to proactively drive the strategic growth of the agency’s offerings to clients.
Knowledge, Skills, and Competencies:
- In depth (+8 years) relevant experience, either working as a financial journalist or in an advisory role or consulting experience advising clients.
- An understanding of the interplay between corporates, the financial community, the political and regulatory arena, and social stakeholders.
- Extensive track record in financial situation advisory work, including M&A and IPOs.
- A strong sense of corporate positioning and how to develop strategies that can translate into programs with real sustained impact.
- Deep knowledge of the Spanish media landscape, with experience in media-handling.
- Ability to operate effectively in an entrepreneurial, fast-paced environment.
- A strong verbal and written communicator with high EQ levels and an engaging presentation style.
- A global perspective and ability to thrive in international businesses or organizations.
- Credible and compelling with senior business leaders.
- A balance of creative and analytical thinking, bringing rigor, accuracy, and attention to detail.
- Proven project and/or program management experience.
- A natural team-worker who prefers to work in a collegiate way.
- Fluent working-level proficiency in Spanish and English.
