Our client is a prominent agricultural organisation representing the voices of thousands of farmers across our nation. They are among the leading agricultural lobbying forces in Scotland, working to influence government policies, engage with consumers, and foster positive relationships within the supply chain.

The Role:

As the Senior Policy Manager, you will lead, develop, and motivate the Food & Farming team to achieve their full potential. Your responsibilities will include representing our members to establish favorable operating environments, developing and communicating policies, and influencing government and industry decisions affecting Scottish agriculture. Additionally, you will take the lead on issues pertaining to combinable crops and potatoes, collaborating closely with colleagues on various policy matters.

Reporting into the Head of Policy, who will oversee your duties and ensure alignment with our organisational goals. You will also manage the Food & Farming team, ensuring they meet policy objectives effectively.

Role Duties:

  • Manage the outputs of the food and farming team, including setting objectives and goals.
  • Foster cross-team collaboration with other policy teams.
  • Stay informed about issues facing the organisation and its members, analysing relevant policy proposals.
  • Develop and maintain policy in consultation with stakeholders.
  • Prepare responses to consultations and provide high-quality technical briefing materials.
  • Promote policy to governments, agencies, and stakeholders.

Key Requirements:

  • Degree OR equivalent working experience.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in policy development, agricultural production, desirable but not essential.
  • Line management experience desired but not essential.
  • Good problem-solving and conflict mediation skills.
  • Positive and professional attitude with high standards of behavior.
  • Ability to assess and interpret information effectively.
  • Competence in evidence-based analysis and policy implementation.
  • Strong industry contacts and understanding of parliamentary processes.
