New Year is a great time for reflection. Most of us have some time off work, which means we can step away from all the noise, let the dust settle, and think clearly about our priorities. And for many of us (nearly 6 in 10 according to the 2017 job exodus trends report), a new job is high on that list of priorities this year. If you’re one of the 60%, then I have two new personal mantras that I want to share with you to help you reach your goal:
Do you have a tendency to downplay your success? You’re not alone. This is common, especially amongst women, and it’s something that I discovered I was doing a few years ago and it wasn’t doing me much good. I was focusing too much on my challenges and I needed to flip the focal point to something more positive. I made a resolution to focus on my successes instead and quickly found that this not only encouraged my clients and team, but it encouraged me as well. I felt more confident and energised in my day to day life. If you’re beginning a job search, this could be particularly helpful. You’re about to have a lot of conversations with potential employers or recruiters and you’ll want to sell your best self to them. Believe in yourself and put your achievements up front; it will make a huge difference.
This is true for work and life! Start building more things you love into your personal and professional life. If you’re looking for a new job, now is the time to prioritise the things that make you the happiest. Is there a certain skill that you want to use more in your day to day job? Do you need a different work schedule to ensure you have more time to spend with your family/at the gym/or on a personal goal? Do you need to get out of the office more and network or have more face-to-face time with your clients? Make yourself a short list of ‘must-haves’ for your next role and don’t be afraid to fight for them. A good recruitment consultant should be able to help you and advise on when should negotiate and when you should be firm.
If a new job one of your top priorities this year, we will happily help you get off on the right foot. Send your CV to enquiries@hansonsearch.com and one of our expert consultants will be in touch.
