Interview Preparation & Technique

Adequate preparation and conducting yourself in an appropriate manner during the interview are of paramount importance. Thorough research prepares you for anything the interviewer might throw at you and better equips you to ask intelligent, relevant questions.

Interview tips:

  • Thoroughly review your CV before the interview.

  • Have all the necessary details of your interviewer to hand (name, title, address, phone number).

  • Work out the route, parking or transport prior and leave plenty of time.

  • Familiarise yourself with the role and its responsibilities.

  • Leave salary negotiations up to your consultant.  It's important that the company wants you before discussing salary specifics.

  • Research the company and the interviewer.

  • Prepare yourself for technical questions.

  • Bring samples of your work where necessary.

  • Relate your past experiences to the new role and explain how you can benefit the company.

  • Prepare for commonly asked questions such as:

  1. Why do you want to/did you leave your job?

  2. What interests you about this role?

  3. Why do you want to work for this company?

  4. What experience do you bring to this position?

  5. What are your career aspirations?

  6. Why should we hire you?

  7. What was your greatest achievement in your previous position?

  8. Tell me about a situation where you had to overcome difficulties.  How did you overcome them?
