Your CV is the first
thing an employer sees, so it’s vital it makes the right impression to
secure you an interview. Employers often have hundreds of CVs to look
through so yours has to make an impact. Most importantly, your relevant
skills and experience must be easy to find and you need to tailor your CV
to the position you’re applying for. Your consultant will revise your CV
and offer constructive advice.
The
first page is the most important - it must attract attention and make
the employer want to read on. It should contain personal details
followed by a summary of skills and experience or ambitions. (your
profile)
Your
CV should be about 2 pages long and include all relevant information,
written in a clear, concise style.
It
may sound obvious but incorrect spelling and grammar are an instant mark
against you. Make sure it's well presented yet simple (avoid
coloured paper or fancy fonts) and ask a friend to proofread it for
you.
If
your education is relevant to your job, put it before your career
history, otherwise include it at the end.
Education and career history should be in reverse chronological order.
Avoid using long pieces of text - use bullet points for greater clarity.
Be
entirely honest - a good interviewer will pick up on any gaps or
discrepancies.
Highlight your contribution to previous companies - quantify your
achievements where possible.
Ensure that all sections about your career are in the same order e.g.
job title, company name, date of employment, brief description of
company, your role, responsibilities and key achievements.
Hobbies and interests show personality but don't overdo it.
Extra-curricular awards/achievements always look good.
